Measure your dog along the spine, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, with them standing. Match that measurement to the chart on this page. Go by that length, not by weight — two dogs the same weight can be very different lengths, and a brace that is too long will sit over the hips and shift when they walk. Every size has eight adjustment points for girth, so the length is the part you need to get right. If you are between two sizes, take the smaller one.
Yes. It is designed to go on with your dog lying on their side or standing still, and you can do the whole thing one-handed if you need your other hand on them. Set the eight adjusters once, on the first fit. After that it goes on and off in seconds without re-adjusting — you are not re-sizing it every morning. Most people have the first fit done in under five minutes.
Stairs and short indoor movement are exactly what it is for. The rigid stays run along the spine and keep it level while they move, and the rear straps let you take some of their weight without bending over them or scooping them up. Take it off for crate rest and overnight. Nothing should be worn unsupervised for long stretches, and your dog needs the skin underneath to breathe. Think of it as something that goes on for the trip to the garden and comes off again.

No. Dachshunds are the breed most people arrive here through, but the sizing is by back length, so it fits French bulldogs, corgis, beagles, cocker spaniels, shih tzus and crossbreeds of a similar build. It is also used by owners whose dog has no diagnosis at all — older dogs who have gone wobbly at the back end, and dogs recovering from surgery who need steadying on the way to the garden. If your dog is outside the chart at either end, message us with the measurement before you order rather than guessing.
